Curriculum vitae (in brevī)

I am a historian of the United States with research interests in nineteenth and twentieth-century military history, the causes and conduct of war, and the American profession of arms. I earned my PhD from Texas Christian University and I hold a BA with honors in German and history from Hillsdale College. I am the author of numerous scholarly works and shorter pieces on themes pertinent to the national interest. When not teaching or writing, I enjoy traveling, hiking, attending collegiate athletic events, live music, reading, visiting museums, and tennis. I am a native of West Michigan.
